Spiritual Care
We believe that taking care of your spiritual wellness is vital!
The mission of FCHC is to facilitate healing of the body, mind, and spirit. We believe these three are intimately interconnected, and your health in one area will affect the health of the others. Our moods fluctuate based on whether our bodies feel strong or we are sick or in pain. Anxiety and depression often manifest with significant physical symptoms.
Furthermore, we often see how health situations move people towards or away from God. The man who just survived a heart attack thinks differently about eternity. The woman who learns she has metastatic cancer may question God’s goodness, or she may be more resolved to live her last days for Him. The young couple wrestling with infertility wonder about His existence in the midst of unanswered prayer. FCHC staff seek to address the spiritual needs of our patients in the context of the impact of health on faith, and of faith on health. We limit the number of patients we see each day in order to allow time for these conversations and to pray with our patients.
The body and the spirit are intertwined, but we would disagree with a doctrine that implies that healthier people are “closer” to God and sicker people are not. Our health is a mixture of our choices, our genetics, our environment, circumstances, and at times divine intervention. We strongly believe in the power of prayer and God’s ability to heal, and His sovereignty over every aspect of our lives including our health. We believe that God heals not based on our merit, but His grace. Although He does not always heal (or at least in the way we would like him to), we do know that He sometimes does. And we know that He wants us to bring our requests to Him, so we faithfully do so.
At FCHC we pray with patients, testify to God's goodness, and encourage patients to grow in faith around 900 times each year! We have volunteer Chaplains who will pray with patients in the clinic, facilitate support groups, and at times visit patients in the hospital. Staff grow together spiritually during an extended lunch break on Thursday afternoons. Please be patient with us while we have Bible study and prayer time, as our phones and doors don't open until 1:30 on Thursdays. We also have a staff retreat each year, and staff members have the opportunity to attend the annual conference of the Christian Community Health Fellowship.
